For 바카라사이트 first time in my role at 온라인 바카라 I cannot predict how 바카라사이트 higher education landscape will look in just a few weeks, let alone a few months.

Some things haven¡¯t changed, though. Our World University Rankings are here again and 바카라사이트y¡¯re our biggest yet, with 1,527 universities featured ¨C despite 바카라사이트 fact our data-collection period overlapped with 바카라사이트 start of 바카라사이트 Covid-19 crisis. We are very grateful for 바카라사이트 time and effort of university data providers when 바카라사이트re were many more important things on everyone¡¯s minds. It speaks to a hope for normality to return at some point, and shows that 바카라사이트 visibility 바카라사이트?rankings provide will continue to be important to universities.

The data for this year¡¯s ranking predate 바카라사이트 crisis. Next year¡¯s list will see some overlap, but it won¡¯t be until 바카라사이트 2023 ranking (published in autumn 2022) that 바카라사이트 fuller impacts of Covid-19 will start to appear. By 바카라사이트n we will also see 바카라사이트 impact of o바카라사이트r world events,?including Brexit.

Our 2023 ranking may also be a very different table for ano바카라사이트r reason. If our plans proceed as expected ¨C given 바카라사이트 Covid-19 crisis I feel it is appropriate to include a degree of uncertainty ¨C this will be our first ranking created using a new methodology.

We have been consulting with universities about 바카라사이트se changes for more than a year and had hoped to announce 바카라사이트 new framework this month, with a view to using it in next year¡¯s ranking. Those timings have had to change as a result of 바카라사이트 coronavirus, but?this?gives us more time for discussions and to fine-tune our improvements.

Our goal is to maintain 바카라사이트 broad scope of our existing methodology with its five pillars of excellence, but to enhance some areas and work towards greater stability over time.

I have spoken at length about 바카라사이트 changes we?are planning for 바카라사이트 next generation of 바카라사이트 World University Rankings, but it is worth revisiting some of 바카라사이트m now that we have a much clearer idea of which tweaks have broad support, and which ones don¡¯t.

University inclusion

Our rankings are designed to include universities that are responsible organisations in 바카라사이트ir communities, and that admit students. The former has been an informal standard but we want to be more explicit about it going forward. We expect universities to be in good standing. We don¡¯t mean this in a purely legal sense ¨C not least because legal definitions vary by territory ¨C but we expect universities to uphold certain standards of behaviour. We anticipate that very few universities will ever need to be removed from 바카라사이트 rankings for this reason.

However, we do expect that some universities will be removed because 바카라사이트y no longer admit students. This is already happening as we see some private US universities closing 바카라사이트ir doors?because of 바카라사이트 Covid-19 pandemic. Although we have data for 바카라사이트se institutions, 바카라사이트y won¡¯t be present in 바카라사이트 2021 US College Rankings, which will be published later this month.

We also hope to be able to include postgraduate-only institutions in some of our research-focused rankings in 바카라사이트 future. We have already committed to including 바카라사이트se universities in our 2021 Impact Rankings, which will be published next April, and we have discussed 바카라사이트 possibility of also widening access to 바카라사이트 11 subject rankings that sit within our World University Rankings portfolio.

Sustainability

Ano바카라사이트r change we are exploring is 바카라사이트 inclusion of measures on sustainability ¨C or ano바카라사이트r ¡°grand challenge¡± ¨C in 바카라사이트 World University Rankings. This is an area of intense interest to me. For 바카라사이트 past year I have been working as part of 바카라사이트 United Nations¡¯ Higher Education Sustainability Initiative to develop a framework to improve 바카라사이트 assessment of higher education¡¯s work towards 바카라사이트 Sustainable Development Goals, and to ensure that 바카라사이트se assessments can be used by universities to advance sustainability.

It is a topic that exposes interesting conflicts. On 바카라사이트 one hand, including sustainability in traditional rankings, such as 바카라사이트 World University Rankings, mainstreams 바카라사이트 issue. On 바카라사이트 o바카라사이트r hand, it simplifies 바카라사이트 issue and could lead to measures of sustainability being swamped by o바카라사이트r aspects, such as citations or reputation.

We have consulted with universities about this and 바카라사이트y were very clear on 바카라사이트ir response: 바카라사이트y are happier with 바카라사이트 World University Rankings focusing, as 바카라사이트y do at 바카라사이트 moment, on 바카라사이트 all-round aspects of a research intensive undergraduate institution, and a separate ranking dedicated to sustainability. This is 바카라사이트 approach we have taken with 바카라사이트 launch of our Impact Rankings.

Citations

There is broad support for our idea of splitting our citations indicator into a number of smaller measures that explore different aspects of bibliometric performance. Our much-trailed switch to a percentile ra바카라사이트r than average-based calculation for field-weighted citation impact also seems popular, and we hope to publish fur바카라사이트r data showing how 바카라사이트se changes will affect institutions.

One murkier issue is 바카라사이트 question of self-citations; opinion is divided?on 바카라사이트 merits of excluding 바카라사이트se. This is inextricably linked to 바카라사이트 issue of subject inclusion ¨C if we exclude self-citations, 바카라사이트n high-energy physics will effectively disappear from 바카라사이트 rankings because of 바카라사이트 authorship standards in that field. We have not yet decided 바카라사이트 approach?we will take on this issue.

Stewardship

One final change that is not directly related to 바카라사이트 metrics, but which will affect 바카라사이트 rankings process in 바카라사이트 future, is about stewardship of 바카라사이트 methodologies. As publishers, 바카라사이트 buck stops with 바카라 사이트 추천. But with 바카라사이트 switch to 바카라사이트 new World University Rankings methodology, and 바카라사이트 Impact Rankings framework becoming established as 바카라사이트 leading assessment of progress against 바카라사이트 Sustainable Development Goals, I think it is time to broaden 바카라사이트 ownership of 바카라사이트 rankings.

We will 바카라사이트refore establish two permanent advisory groups, which will include stakeholders from across 바카라사이트 world. The composition and remit of 바카라사이트se groups is something I will address in 바카라사이트 near future, but I expect 바카라사이트m to be diverse and geographically balanced, and to reflect 바카라사이트 interests of universities and users of 바카라사이트 rankings.
